‘A big relief’: Greater Johnstown senior gets boost from Subich scholarship

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Greater Johnstown High School senior Emanuel Hill stood stoically Tuesday as alumnus Nick Subich presented him with this year’s Subich Trojan Spirit Scholarship – but afterward, Hill’s excitement ballooned as he cherished the moment.

“I’m super-ecstatic,” Hill said. “Saves me a lot of money and a lot of stress.”

He was chosen to receive a $10,000 payment toward his future education due to his performance on the football field and in the classroom.

For the past several years, Subich has honored a Greater Johnstown senior football player to reward their hard work and invest in their future.

He said getting to return to his alma mater and give back is one of his favorite activities to take part in.

“Manny, I want to wish you all the success,” he said. “Never take your foot off the gas.”

Misty Urban, Hill’s mother, was as excited as her son about the financial support.

“That’s a big relief,” she said. “That helps so much.”

Urban added that her son worked extremely hard to get to where he is and she was proud to see that dedication recognized. It feels like everything is falling into place, she said.

Hill played football from eighth grade through senior year. He was primarily a left tackle, but occasionally stepped in to be a defensive tackle. During his high school career, he also played basketball and baseball.
